Roberta “Bobbi” Smith graduated from Ohio  University with a B.S. in Textiles and Clothing with a Specialization in Fashion Merchandising. She also took some Graduate Studies in Apparel Technology at the University of North Carolina towards a Masters in Apparel Technology. Bobbi also earned a certificate in Industry Fashion Methods at Philadelphia University, is certified as a Trained Sewing Educator by the American Sewing Association, and licensed as a Viking Martha Pullen Heirloom teacher. Serving on many boards promoting sewing and the arts, currently Bobbi is serving on the national board of SAGA (Smocking Arts Guild of America) as Vice President.

Bobbi has been the owner of Fascination in Fabrics for the past 14 years offering a fine selection of fabrics, laces, patterns and notions for sewing classic children’s clothing, christening gowns, and family heirlooms. Her passion continues to be designing and constructing christening gowns that are sure to become family heirlooms for generations to use and enjoy.

In 2001, Bobbi added teaching to her activities, at first teaching adults, mostly moms and grandmothers, the joys of heirloom sewing. Asked to teach a children’s class in 2004, she accepted the offer and has since then developed a broad range of classes for her younger students whose ages range from four years old through young adults.

Today, Bobbi travels and teaches a variety of sewing topics to pre-school children through adults in private, semi-private, or group settings. Throughout the year, she runs successful after school programs at Wilmington Friends School, and Tower Hill School. Other programs include American Girl Saturdays at the Darlington Arts Center in PA and American Girl and Begin to Sew classes at the PAL Center, Brandywine Towne, and Rockwood Mansion Center in DE (New Castle County Activity Centers). Bobbi also does sewing programs for the Girl Scouts in DE, MD, and PA. Recently, she has added “Sewing Birthday Parties” and Sewing “Play Dates” to her schedule.

During the summer, Bobbi enjoys continued success with her “Get Creative and Sew Camps”. These camps fill quickly and run weekly from June 15 through September 4 of 2009. Campers have the opportunity to try a variety of sewing techniques as they begin to grasp basic sewing skills by hand and machine. Classes are small to ensure campers receive the attention they need to succeed in each project. Call for more information or to register for camps.
